A winter wonderland of attractions

Moore River Region

Why wait for a long weekend?

The ever popular Mediterranean climate in the Moore River Region is well known, but did you know our secret? The splendour of our winter is an additional benefit for visitors.  Book your accommodation today and cruise along scenic Wanneroo Rd (opening soon Indian Ocean Drive) or Brand Highway to enjoy a mid week or weekend getaway. For a change of pace Saturday can become Sunday if you start your weekends on Friday.

With more sunny days in WA than anywhere else in Australia, many visitors choose to travel during the cooler months to take advantage of the lush green fields of grazing land and rolling hills filled with olive groves, citrus and mango orchards.  Locals boast about this fantastic coastal country region so come experience it yourself.

The Moore River Region is a must see addition to your itinerary and showcases the largest olive growing region in Western Australia. Regans Ridge Olives since planting their first olive tree in 1999, are just one premium olive grove that thrives on entirely organic management practises, they are located directly on the banks of the Moore River.  Fini Olives are fulfilling a passion of "working the land" with award winning olive oils and now is a great time to visit as Fini Olives are open for oil tasting, wines, coffee & cake, plus gift shop.

On your winter escape enjoy the perfect settings to warm up by visiting one of our other award winning wineries.  Riseborough Estate Winery & Art Gallery is built on a hilltop with spectacular views over the vineyard and valleys of Gingin, various exhibitions are held throughout the year.  Jylland Winery located in the Lennard Brook district of the Shire of Gingin is open for lunch on weekends, book in and enjoy their selection of sumptuous regional gourmet foods.

There are hours of fun to be had at the Gravity Discovery Centre where you can climb the Leaning Tower of Gingin and see the fun side of science.  Then rug up for your stargazing evening, a night that you have always promised yourself you would experience.  Stargazing is available all year round at the Gingin Observatory west of Gingin.  A popular venue which attracts good crowds so be sure to book.

On your return to one of the regions accommodation locations curl up your toes with the simple warmth of a hot cocoa as you drift away into your book after a long day of regional experiences.  As you drive in or out of the area one of the sweetest stops in Gingin is at the award winning third generation family business West Coast Honey, listen to that inner child when you scoop that fresh honey and devour their famous honey ice cream.

Mini golf fun for every age group and perhaps  have lunch at the labour of love country activity centre Caladenia Mini Golf and Le Shed Cafe. Feel the warmth and hear the crackle from the fireplace, admire the gorgeous tropical gardens featuring water spouting from the elephants, its truly an oasis.

Historic Gingin township is one of Western Australia's oldest towns, walk among historic buildings, cemeteries, churches, railway station, Vic Gordon Memorial walkway opposite Granville Park which is picture perfect and complete with working waterwheel in the brook, walk off lunch with the Gingin Walkabout trail.  Wildflowers abound in in the area with something in flower throughout the year.
